Davos summit 2020
Climate Change has been centre stage since the annual World Economic Forum at Davos* and across our news feeds recently, following the damage done by the terrifying wildfires in Australia we thought we’d look back and celebrate the fact that there are real heroes championing environmental issues.
The marmite, Greta Thunberg, continues to divide our office, but she has our full support with her message as the teenage activist told the world’s political and business leaders that people are starting to listen… “People are more aware now… climate and environment are a hot topic now.”
She spoke to all of us when she said that everyone needs to listen more to the science regarding climate change and the heating of the planet and that; “Without treating it as a real crisis we cannot solve it.”.
Thunberg has support at the highest levels. The’ 81-year-old founder of Davos, Klaus Schwab, warned that the world is facing “a state of emergency.”
“We do not want to reach the tipping point of irreversibility on climate change,” Schwab told reporters on Tuesday. “We do not want the next generations to inherit a world, which becomes ever more hostile and ever less habitable.”
Recently voted as the UK’s ‘most trusted celebrity’ David Attenborough (please can somebody clone him), stated that
“The Garden of Eden is no more”. Though he has hope that human ingenuity can still overcome human destruction:
“If people can truly understand what is at stake, I believe they will give permission for business and governments to get on with the practical solutions,”
“What we do now, and in the next few years, will profoundly affect the next few thousand years,” he added.
With sustainability featured as the main theme on the agenda for the international conference this year, businesses of every size are being challenged to “address the key issues of the decade” and find more ethical solutions.
And at PURE we take that to heart.
From one independent spirit to another, we salute you David Attenborough.
